Klout is a San Francisco-based company that provides social media analytics to measure a user’s influence across his or her social network. The analysis is done on data taken from sites such as Facebook and Twitter and measures the size of a person’s network, how other people interact with that content and the content created.
The company has been subject to substantial criticism, both for its business model and its operating principle.
Klout allows users to track the impact of their opinions, links and recommendations across your social graph. Data is collected about the content users create, how people interact with that content and the size and composition of their networks. Klout identifies influencers and provides tools for influencers to monitor their influence.
Facebook and Twitter users are often barraged by those touting their Klout scores. Klout ties into metrology as a Klout score measures online influence on a scale of 1 to 100.
Klout states that the score measures influence based on the entities ability to drive action in social networks.
